In Ghana, the minimum entry requirement for most institutions is C6. Students with a grade C6 are qualified to apply for any institutions in the country.
Unfortunately, if you see a D7, E8 or F9 in your results, you may be panicking. This should not be the case as far as I understand how the Ghana Education System works and some of the opportunities that await students with a grade D7 and E8 in their results.
I am glad to inform you that there are some positive opportunities for students with D7 and E8 in their results. Keep reading to discover the good news for D7 and E8 students in Ghana.
Great News for D7 and E8 Students in Ghana
Here are some of the good news for WASSCE graduates with a D7 or E8 in their results:
1. Remedial Classes and Exams
Students with a pass or fail in their results are given the opportunity to rewrite them. This exam is popularly known as NOV/DEC because it was held from November to December.
You have the option to choose the subject of interest to you. For instance, if you get a D7 in English, you can choose to write only English. NoV/Dec is the best alternative for students who have a fail or pass in their results.
2. Technical and Vocational Training
Students with E8 and D7 are eligible to enroll in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs. These courses focus on practical skills like construction, fashion design, and mechanics, which lead to lucrative careers.
The Ghanaian government has increased investment in technical education, providing scholarships and support to students enrolling in TVET programs.
3. Security Services
Another great news for D7 and E8 students in Ghana is that most security services allow students with a D or E to apply for opportunities. Almost all National security services in the mandate applicants to have a minimum of C6 in the core subjects.
So, if you have a D or E in any of your electives, you can proceed to apply for any security service in the country. However, make sure you at least pass all the core subjects.
Some security services where you can apply with a D or E in your WASSCE results are Ghana Armed Force, Ghana Police Force, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana National Immigration Service, and Ghana Prison Service.
4. Nursing Training Colleges
Some of the best government institutions to pursue diploma and certificate programs with a D7 or E8 in your WASSCE results are Nursing and Midwifery training Colleges.
There are several nursing training schools in Ghana that accept students with a D7 or E8 in their results. For instance, students with a D in their results who apply to College of Health and Well Being, Kintampo, are given certificate programs.
Also, if you are to apply to a nursing training college, you will be offered a certificate program such as community nursing or health assistant.
5. Private Universities and Colleges
There are several private institutions in the country that accept WASSCE students with D7 and E8. These institutions offer Diploma and certificate program for SHS students with a D in their results.
As a student with a D, you do not need to worry much about going to school. However, since most institutions in Ghana require all applicants to have a minimum grade of C6 in their results, you may not be able to apply to most public universities.
You may consider writing NoV/Dec to better your results or look for any security service to apply. Also, you may want to attend one of the nursing training schools in Ghana that accept at least a grade D in their results.
