I remember when I wrote Nov/Dec in 2017 and had a D in one of my results. I was planning to apply to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. I was denied admission which I thought was as a result of the D7.
In Ghana, the pass mark for entry into all universities is from A1 — D7. Not just universities, but nearly all public schools in the country require an average of C6 in your results.
While it is true some universities do no accept D7 and E8, some do depending on the course or program of study and results type. For instance, if you have D7 in a core subject, you are likely to be denied admission.
When applying to a university or college in Ghana with a D or E in your results, it is recommended to consider the field of study, course and other important information.
For instance, if you plan to study Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, a D7 in social studies is likely to have less effect on your application. However, if you get a D in Integrated Science, you will be disqualified.
Universities in Ghana That Accept D7 and E8
1. Private Universities
Private universities in Ghana tend to have more flexible admission policies compared to public institutions. These universities often focus on providing opportunities for students to develop their skills and knowledge, regardless of their WASSCE grades.
There are several private universities that accept D7 and E8. Some few examples are:
Valley View University
Known for its inclusive admission policies, Valley View University offers programs that may accommodate students with D7 or E8 in non-core subjects.
Pentecost University
Pentecost University considers students with lower grades for diploma and short-term certificate courses, allowing them to transition to degree programs later.
2. Technical Universities
Technical universities are also a great option for students with D7 and E8, as they focus more on practical and vocational training. Some notable ones include:
Accra Technical University
ATU offers access courses and diploma programs that accept D7 or E8 in specific subjects. These programs prepare students for higher learning or immediate employment.
Takoradi Technical University
TTU provides opportunities for students to enroll in diploma and HND programs with less stringent grade requirements.
